Costa Rican Beef Soup.

Step 1:

Beef Cuts-Do not be afraid of any cuts of meat as you can do no wrong. The long cooking times will break any meat and cartilage down from any cut you can buy. Beef shank, ribs, neck pieces are all full of flavor and convert into a very desirable cut of meat after prolonged cooking.

Step 2:

The arrival of electricity changed many aspects of life in the interior of Costa Rica. Without refridgeration the best vegetables to store were hardy root vegetables such as potatoes, yucca, sweet potatoes and carrots. Cabbage and corn could be relied upon to add some fresh vegetables and seasonal squash could be added in concert with their growing season. Today the typical mix is: Potatoes, Yucca, Squash, Corn-on-the-cob, cabbage, and carrots. All left in giant 2-3 inch cuts and added with the meat at the beginning of the cooking process.

Step 3:

Filling the pot with an a half of water. Pick the meat on the bottom of the pot and then cover with the rough cut vegetables. Sprinkle generously with coarse sea salt, add a handful of bay leaves, a little of condiments such as pepper, sauce and good costa rican hot sauce. Cover again with much water as you can safely handle and place over a medium to low heat. Let cook for a minimum of 4 hours. If the temperature is right, you will not need to open the pot, stir the pot, or even look at the pot until the time to eat it.

Step 4:

Pull the meat and vegetables out of the soup and serve dry on a plate with fresh cilantro chopped on top. Serve the soup on the side with a small side of white rice. The power of a good soup bring you back to life is excited.

Interview Senior Citizen

My interview was realized to Mr. Miguel Mora. We talked about many topics. He talked with a lot pleasure, but when I talked about technology, he took a big breath and he said:

… Well, My own point of view is how this happened very fast?

He said that he never understood certain appliances such as, TV with remote control, an alarm clock, and of course, a computer.

He said that when he watched a computer, he thought, what is it? And how does it work?

He said that he always was intrigued by knows a little bit about that, but nobody helped him.

Mr. Mora is willing to learn, because he wants to overcome this kind of obstacle.

Particularly, I said him that if he wanted I could help him, and he said that he only was waiting for me.

HomeSchooling

Home Schooling

Basically, homeschooling is learning in home, this looks like school education but in our own homes, normally by parents who teach to their sons and daughters but also, homeschooling can be taught by tutors.

For me, homeschooling in our country, might be taught in strict cases at home, for example, handicapped kids, extreme poverty by a special tutor or teacher, a family with a lot a kids, people with special abilities, etc.

The Costa Rican government might be attended to that, and make the difference, but in different ways, the government has been far away of it.

However, homeschooling is an option for learning day by day, and go on overcoming troubles, obstacles and trying to understand that “learning” is to say good bye to the ignorance.

Immigration Policies

Immigration Policies.

Currently in Costa Rica the immigration policies in theory seem to be good. Nevertheless, in practice aren´t because they present big deficiencies.

In our country every single day a lot of people come, being the majority of them foreigners, for example, Nicaraguan, Colombian, Dominican people.

In occasions they come looking for job opportunities, but in others occasions they come to cause damages.

In Costa Rica we have seen with frequency, drug traffic, robberies, weapon troubles, assaults, grudge fight. Generally in these acts are involved at least one or two foreigner. Since these perspectives, is very hard for Costa Rica to see that, and faced the reality.

In addition, in certain cases, our policemen are involved with bad people and they help to the foreigner criminals for doing corrupt acts.

My point of view is, Costa Rica needs better immigration policies, to improve our life quality.

August Rush

“August Rush”.

I loved so much that movie because it has a lot of messages, such as we must believe in love, to feel passion for someone or something.

This movie shows us about the way of making decisions, being responsible, fighting against all odds… for example when the girl knew that her baby was alive.

I also thought that perseverance changes our lives. And it can make a change in our way of thinking.

On the other hand, the child never lost his hope, and he always thought about his parents that one day they would appear.

In conclusion, these kinds of movies help us improve and overcome the challenges and obstacles.

Community Service

Do you agree or disagree with Community Service?

I am going to talk about Ulacit Community Service.

For me, community service is a good thing for helping people.

In different fields of society, such as abandoned children, assisted living facilities, drug addicts, mistreated women, etc.

Community service in the moral values is to make conscience about the privileges given to us by God, and all those good things given in our house by our family.

We also, can see how to live, in terms of the money, own things, parents, relatives, different ways to live, and different points of view.

When you work in any area of these, you find limitations, lack of love, in certain cases they don´t receive relative’s visits, and they suffer sadness, some of them cry.

With all these examples, I finally understand… Why do you must do community service?

In conclusion, community service is not only a requisite is a way for rewarding or sharing with needed people a lot of things that we have.

Living Longer

Advantages or disadvantages of living long.

When you have a good life, you get several advantages for living long such these:

The physical activities: play sports, swimming, running, go to the gym, etc.
Have a good health.
No illnesses.
Absences of deficiencies.
Enjoy life: sharing with the family, friends.
Be proactive.
And a lot of more things…

On the other hand, if you have a long life, probably you have these options:

If you don´t have family you would be alone.
Could have feelings like: sadness, sorrow, anguish, pain.
Lack of happiness.
Be a passive person.
Could be inclined to suffer sicknesses or something like that.
And more…

Intelligent Animals

Can Animals be considered intelligent? Why or why not?

Absolutely true, certain animals could be considered intelligent because of their skills to understand, learn, follow instructions, and do things and many other activities.

For example, the pig is a intelligent animal, because it is able to follow instructions better than a dog. Some studies say, pigs are more intelligent than a kid of three years old.

On the other hand, the dolphins are capable to learn, to know and to analyze different behaviors. For example they teach to its babies, how to do tricks, how must to find its own feed, to defend themselves from predators, to communicate with each other, etc…

In order to find intelligent animals they are a lot of them. Nevertheless, also other dumb animals exist, like insects, bugs, worms, mosquitoes, etc.

Humans Beings are a kind of animals, for this simple argument they are intelligent animals; and an intelligent animal depends on who says this phrase or what the comparison is.

Smoking

Essay about to smoke in public.

In three months New Yorkers won´t be able to smoke in different areas such as parks, beaches, and public spaces due to the measures approved by the Congress. This summer they could breath a cleaner y fresher air because the Major Michael Bloomberg approved the prohibition.

In Spain, in 2010 they took measures like to approve an “Anti-tobacco Law”. With that they hope to reduce in a 10% the number of smokers. Like New York, they can´t smoke in public places. Besides, the Law contributes to reduce between 30% and 40% new smokers, according to President against Smoking.

In Honduras an advertisement puts a “Stop” for smoking in public. This country adopted measures to restrict smoking like in different countries in the world. Peculiarly, in this country If a person smokes at home, the family could accuse her/him of being a to the transgressor member.

Particularly in Costa Rica, people are doing campaigns against cigarettes and smoking in indoor public spaces such as hotels, and outdoor sites like parks, high-schools, hospitals, etc. The Congress said that this Law wants to avoid damages and bring benefits for everybody, including the passive smokers by creating a fresh environment.

Obstacles

How do you overcome the obstacles?

Well, when I saw this question I thought that everyone has obstacles. You could have physical obstacles or, some stuck in your mind only.

The real important thing is, if you have a limitation in your life, either, physical, or mental, you must to try for all means to overcome these challenges.

Life is weird, but it doesn´t give you anything that you can´t overcome. The change begins when you make a decision. When you say… “I can do that” or… “I can do this again”.

Never give up, because this only shows that you have a limited mind and you aren´t able to fight against your obstacles.

Media

The influence of media on societal values.

First of all, I think the media has a big influence on people, because you are constantly bombarded with publicity and advertises on the TV.

Also, different industries like fashion, food, and others, do things that invite people to copy them. The kids (girls and boys) are easily influenced. Then, young people think that not eating and being skin is good. It´s usual when you surf in internet, and you can see different forums talking about anorexia, bulimia as a normal way of life.

On the other hand, the media helps you in different contexts; for example; If you need to know the news, the weather, if you´re looking for information related with a homework, if you want to listen to music, etc.

We have to be careful with the way in which we allow that media to influence us, so we don´t become an easy prey.

Introduction.

I am Laura. I am 28 years old. I have long and straight dark hair, brown eyes, white skin. I have a little girl her name is Roselyn.. She is 2 years old. I love her very much. She is my inspiration. I enjoying play different games with Roselyn, because she learns very fast. I don´t work at this time, because I prefer to take care of my daughter: I would want to look for a job in one or two years. I also want to finish my main major, Business Administration, in a couple of terms, probably. In the present term I will finish my second major, Telecommunications Specialist. I am so excited, because it has been a big effort for my family, my daughter and me.

Currently, we live in Desamparados. We have lived in San Miguel for a long time. My neighbors are very friendly. I have a lot of friends. My best friend lives next to my home. She is very special and nice. We share so many things like listening to music, watching TV, watching movies, taking a walk, and baby things. She has a son. He is Ismael. He is 3. Ismael and Roselyn are good friends too.

I almost don´t have some hobbies, but I love to eat out, go to the theater and take pictures. I have a kind of ritual. After I go to the theater, I go to “La Casona”. It is a very special restaurant, they prepare typical dishes, and each plate is delicious. Later, I come back home.

Talking about pets, in my place we have three dogs, one male and two female. They are Doberman Pincher. They are very funny because their size is so tiny.

Sincerely, my life is very beautiful for me, because I have all the people and things that I need. Thank you for your time and for reading this.
